There are three basic types of breakdown cover that you could choose from, which are tailored for the UK market; so try to find one which would suit you best.

The first one starts from about £25 onwards, which includes a round the clock roadside help and a tow to a local garage. You can opt for this basic level of cover, if you so wish. This level will cover you for roadside assistance in UK when you are more than a mile from home. Most companies will repair the vehicle on the roadside. If this is not possible, the vehicle will be towed to an approved garage within 15 miles or to your home.

Besides a nationwide recovery and 24 hours assistance, the second level of cover, which is about £60, is good if you need to travel out of the local area. The insurance company will send a team of mechanics to repair the vehicle on the roadside and if they are not able to do so, it will be towed to your destination. This cover will give you a replacement for two days, an overnight stay, or means to continue travel.

On the third level, breakdown cover at a little more than £80 is quite comprehensive; you will get assistance when you travel away from your local area and it will cover you right from your home. This breakdown cover also gives you a replacement car for two days, a hotel stay, or means for onward travel.
