Existing Travel Insurance Is Affected By Pregnancy
Many women may have travel insurance but things are vastly different when travel insurance and pregnancy go together. For one, the pregnant beneficiary is categorized as high-risk and most insurance companies would raise the premiums to provide cover to pregnant women. Moreover, there could be exclusions and no insurance cover for a woman who is in an advanced stage of pregnancy, at which stage even doctors would advice against travel. Of course, to be fair to insurance companies, it is often not safe for a woman to travel long distances during the later part of the third trimester. During the initial months, travelling should be avoided as women suffer fatigue and morning sickness and a holiday does not seem as appealing.
A woman who has travel insurance and is pregnant should consider travelling during her second trimester. It is an ideal time for a woman who would want to take a break and have a relaxed holiday before her child comes along. At that stage, she can be sure she will have no hassles with the airlines, nor will insurance companies refuse cover; she will be free of morning sickness so she can go ahead and make the most of an enjoyable holiday. That would be the ideal travel plan for a pregnant woman, but getting a nod from your doctor is imperative.
