For those who like irony in stories and news items, we have the perfect piece for you. However, there is a serious overtone to this article as it highlights the fact that thieves are not fussy who they steal from, whether they be an ordinary unwitting tourist or a high ranking executive who should supposedly know better.

Most people know that insurance for mobile phones covers theft, but it is people’s perception of theft that differs. We all envisage the opportunist thief who sees that you have inadvertently left your mobile phone in the gents or ladies toilets and takes off with it. However, we are all most susceptible when in a crowd, whether it be at a football match, concert or other type of gathering where lots of people congregate. You can rest assured that there will be pickpockets amongst that crowd and they do not look like the ‘Artful Dodger’!

This is highlighted by the case of the Microsoft CEO, Steve Balmer, who gave their secret new mobile phone loaded with the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 software which would give them the edge over Apple’s iPhone, to Sol Trujillo, CEO of Telestra , the Australian telecoms giant. He, in turn, lent it to a fellow executive to try out. Unfortunately, the unnamed executive had his pockets picked by the infamous Barcelona pickpockets and lost the phone!

It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall of Mr Trujillo’s office when news of this was broken to him!

It goes to show that it does not matter who you are or where you are, you are always in danger from opportunist thieves and pickpockets. Fortunately for us ordinary folk there is insurance for mobile phones that covers us in these instances, as well as offering other important and mind easing features like storage of important information and numbers for example and what is more, the cost of it will not pick your pockets.
