Whether it is a holiday, business travel or official travel on work, a pregnant woman can undertake a journey, without much hassles. However, for a pregnant woman, travelling whilst pregnant should be avoided during the first and third trimesters, as far as possible. The reason being that risks to the unborn child and complications of premature delivery are high during these periods.

Travel insurance for travel during pregnancy is highly desirable, but here again, insurance companies would like the journey completed well before the risk periods, mostly before the woman completes her 28th week of gestation. Airlines too would have the same restrictions. However, you may find an insurance company and an airline that could take care of your specific needs. With consent from the doctor and with some precautions from her side, the woman can travel during pregnancy, even up to 36 weeks of gestation.

The expectant mother should be cautious about the kind and quality of food and water she consumes, to avoid stomach infections. Adequate rest and sleep is important, while she is away from the comforts of her home.

Whatever the mode of travel, the woman has to avoid sitting for long hours, move around to keep her circulation going. If on a holiday, the woman should avoid strenuous activity and sports.
