What Is Not Covered In The Standard Pet Insurance Policy?

Just as with any form of insurance there are some exclusions when you take out pet insurance. These are the things that are not covered in the policy and you need to be aware of these.

One thing you have to be aware of when considering taking out pet insurance is if your pet already has an existing medical condition. Usually vets bills related to that illness are not covered in the insurance policy. Therefore taking out insurance while your pet is very young makes a great deal of sense, and usually means the premiums are lower than those for an older pet. Hereditary illness or disease is typically also excluded so consider this too.

If your pet has to have a special diet this is usually excluded from the policy so you will not be able to claim for any special foods your pet eats.

While illness and injury is usually covered in pet insurance bear in mind that usually you have to wait so many days after taking out the policy before being able to claim. This could be anything from not claiming within the first 10 days to as long as 30 days from the start of the policy, so always check this.

Home Emergency Cover – It’s All About The Birds And The Bees!

Now I know that nobody really loves insurance. In fact, nobody really loves any expense where there is no perceived value, however, that value comes into sharp focus where home emergency cover is concerned, especially when one of those once in a lifetime events happen to you!

I like birds and I appreciate the work done by bees, but that does not mean that I want to live with them nor their close relatives.

At first, when my young daughter told me that she had bees living in her room, I thought she was making up stories. However, upon investigation, I found a number of dead wasps on her window sill, but I could not find out where they came from.

A few days later I was mowing the lawn when I noticed wasps flying back and forth past me as I worked. When I checked, they were flying into the airbrick at the very top of my house at the apex of the roof! I could actually hear the humming noise they were making!

I was busy checking my Yellow Pages for a pest removal company when I noticed an advert stating that those with home emergency cover would almost certainly have insurance cover against such an occurrence. A few phone calls later and sure enough, our trusty home emergency cover did have a section covering removal of pests.

The man came and within an hour had removed the nest and sanitized the area so they would not return. What a relief.

Now I wonder if the policy covers removal of my mother-in-law!

Breakdown Cover On Your Onward Holiday Road Trip Is Essential

When you are on an onward journey by road, what you least expect is your vehicle breaking down, upsetting your plans. A simple flat tyre or a more serious engine problem can stall your programme. In such cases, comprehensive breakdown cover is the answer.

Not having breakdown cover that includes onward journey could lead you into a serious predicament. The onward journey cover is not sold as a standalone option. It comes in with the high-end breakdown cover package. Of course, this kind of package is more expensive as it offers a very extensive service. It would make good economic sense to include such cover, if you do go on motoring holidays.

Providers offer various types of breakdown cover. Some may provide alternate transportation arrangements to you and your fellow travellers, besides the vehicle recovery, to prevent your travel plans from being severely jeopardized. Others may offer overnight accommodation, if same day onward travel is not possible. Yet, others may provide a replacement vehicle or reimburse your travel by bus, train, taxi, or even flight.

The quantum of reimbursement may differ from provider to provider based on the type of package on offer. Most providers have a freephone helpline to organize your onward travel arrangements, which would be very reassuring in such a problematic situation.

The next time you plan on a motoring holiday with family or friends, make sure that you include the onward journey breakdown cover and travel comfortably in the knowledge that help is always at hand should you have a problem en route.

You could also get further discounts if you ask for mobile insurance for more than one phone. You could have the mobile phones of your family members insured too, all under one plan.

Home Emergency Insurance – Stay Calm And Don’t Blow A Fuse!

One of the first things we do when buying a house is take out the necessary insurance. Often this is a compulsory requirement by the mortgage lender but more and more people are now becoming aware of the pitfalls of not having adequate insurance cover for those unexpected events.

These days, everybody is aware of Home Contents and Buildings Insurance, but people are also recognizing the need to fill the gaps in these types of cover. The most obvious being home emergency insurance. Compared to the cost of the main policies this type of cover is extremely good value for money because it covers those intangible events that often cause us the most grief!

We had moved into our home and were getting used to the new surroundings. We had tried all the gadgets and fittings to apprise ourselves of their uses. So it was on the first day back to work that we started to use some of the kitchen appliances. My wife switched on the kettle and poof! Everything stopped! A fuse I thought. I quickly changed it and tried again, poof! It went again.

Whatever I tried, it blew the fuse and I was starting to blow mine! I was late for work. My wife suddenly blurted out about the home emergency insurance policy we took out when arranging the mortgage. She decided to find it and give them a call whilst I rushed off to work.

When I got home in the evening, my wife told me that the emergency electrician had called round very quickly and soon found that there was a problem with the ring main in the kitchen. We had to use fewer appliances until it could be fixed.

It turned out that the previous owners had made improvements to the kitchen themselves without consulting a qualified electrician! They had used the wrong sized cable!

We managed to get the cable replaced and everything now works fine. We could never have even guessed what was the problem let alone fix it ourselves.

Mobile Phone Insurance – It’s A Steal!

Whenever you see pictures of thieves in the newspapers, it never ceases to amaze how ordinary they look. Unfortunately, thieves do not wear striped shirts, with a black eye mask and carry a bag with `Swag` written all over it! That may sound a little condescending, but you would be surprised at how victims of petty theft never suspect those people around them in shops, cafes or the pub.

Here are some scary statistics:-
2% of UK mobile phone owners reported them stolen last year
That figure is a lot higher amongst teenagers
228 mobile phones are reported stolen every hour!

Obviously people take out mobile phone insurance to cover this eventuality, but the Government is launching a phone owner awareness campaign aimed at reducing this figure.

Favourite amongst thieves are the women who insist on having their phone in an open handbag, easy to steal without being noticed. However, a growing trend is for mums with buggies to put the phone in the folded canopy near the buggy handle. Yes, it is convenient when it rings, but it is an open invitation to be stolen.

Having anything stolen is a traumatic experience, and people interviewed later have expressed feelings of violation. However, with a mobile phone loss, it is also the loss of contacts that is a worry, or that someone is using your mobile phone and racking up a huge bill.

It is important therefore that owners firstly take sensible precautions to protect their handsets by keeping them on your person at all times in a concealed place.

Furthermore, when you take out mobile phone insurance, ensure that things like storage of your contacts are included in your policy. Better still; consult an expert to ensure that it is only your cover that is a steal!

Snakes, Lizards, Turtles, Exotic Pet Insurance Is Needed

There are many more types of pet out there other than a cat or dog. You could choose to own a snake, a turtle, spider or a goat. All of these fall into the class of an ‘exotic pet’ and do not come cheap. If you wish to own an exotic pet you may also wish to consider taking out exotic pet insurance at the same time.

Exotic pet insurance typically covers a range of events and circumstances. For instance cover would usually pay towards finding your pet if it escaped or was stolen. It would be there in the event of the death of your pet due to accident or illness and it may come with financial help towards legal costs if you are sued due to your pet hurting someone or damaging property.

One benefit that could save you a great deal of money when you take out exotic pet insurance is vets bills. The costs associated with a trip to the vets can be staggering. A consultation alone costs you money. You may be referred to another vet who specialises in your species and the cost of medication, tests and treatment all add up. Your insurance typically pays towards these costs, so even if it does not meet them all at least you have some financial assistance.
