Mobile Phone Insurance – Don’t Get A Bum Deal!

Just like any other form of insurance, there are many mobile phone insurance companies out there all offering slightly different levels of cover. In selling they are called USPs or Unique Selling Points. The idea is to be able to differentiate between each insurer. There is nothing neither new nor wrong about this practice, but it can sometimes lead to mobile phone owners finding out to their cost that the package of benefits in their mobile phone insurance policy does not cover their particular mishap.

To offer a case in point, I have a very good friend with whom I went to school. He was always chubby at school and these days he is very `large`. He keeps everything on his person as you are supposed to for security reason, but it is where he keeps things that was his undoing.

You see, he kept his mobile phone in his back pocket. Evidently putting bulky items in his front pockets made him look even wider than he actually was!

This was fine until he decided to sit down one day whilst he was in the local pub. The seats were quite hard and as he lowered himself onto the seat, there was a resounding crackling noise! Everybody fell about with laughter. Most unkind I thought, especially the jibes about his mobile phone now being a slim line model!

Once the frivolity had died down he realized that he had damaged the facia and screen of the phone beyond repair. “I’ll have to bin it” he said dejectedly. “Why, I asked” trying to look concerned. “You have mobile phone insurance don’t you?” I continued.

He went home to tell his wife and to check his policy. Fortunately for him the policy DID have the necessary cover for it to be repaired, but he did not know that until he had called the service provider.

The moral is, do not be blinded by sales hype when taking out mobile phone insurance. Get an expert to make sure that your cover suits you other wise you may end up with a bum deal!

Home Emergency Insurance – Don’t Be Left In The Dark!

Since the ending of BST on 31st October we have been plunged into dark evenings starting as early as 16.00hrs or 4pm in `old money`. Whilst we have become accustomed to this seasonal change over the years, we still leave ourselves vulnerable to power failures.

Power failures resulting from a National Grid problem are unavoidable, though we should still have torches and emergency lighting around the house just in case. However, failure of power in the home, whilst to some extent avoidable, is something we can be prepared to deal with by having torches and emergency lighting to hand as above, but also by taking out home emergency insurance.

So next time you are floundering around because the lights have gone out suddenly, get your torch and find your policy document and call the emergency number.

It is not just electrical failures that are covered by this insurance and it is worthwhile taking note of the times of the year when we are most likely to need the services of an emergency tradesman.

Starting with October, this month is associated with the most broken boiler callouts. Why? Because it is when traditionally, most people fire up their boiler to heat their homes. Therefore it is the month when they find out that it requires attention!

November is associated not only with national power failures due to the obvious high winds, damaged power cables, power surges etcetera, but less daylight hours mean more usage for lighting, statistically more time at home using power and general electrical breakdowns.

December is mainly known for frozen pipes and the like, and January is the month where the most burst pipes and leaks are reported.

So, don’t be left in the dark, without heating or water, protect your self and your family with home emergency insurance.

Yet others would offer free phone insurance cover when you buy the mobile phone from the service provider along with the plan. Mostly what they offer would be free insurance for the first month or so, after which the monthly premium will be loaded on to your mobile phone bills. Understanding The Varieties Of Pet Insurance

Just as you are able to take out many different varieties of insurance for yourself and family, the same applies when taking out pet insurance. There are different forms of insurance and it pays to understand these when considering a policy.

One of the forms of pet insurance is time capped cover. This means that the policy covers a condition for the first year of you claiming on the insurance. An example of this might be if your pet is diagnosed with diabetes. During the first year you are able to claim up to the maximum amount on your policy but after that if the illness continues you can claim nothing.

Lifetime cover, as the name suggests, typically covers your pet for life. This means that if diabetes is diagnosed you are able to continue claiming year after year while ever your pet has the illness and needs treatment.

Financially capped cover means you may be able to claim over the years, however there is typically a limit on the maximum amount of money you can claim back.

Pet insurance can be affordable if you choose to search around the internet and compare policies. When making comparisons along with comparing the cost of insurance, at the same time also check the benefits and levels so you know what you will get back if needed.

Mobile Phone Insurance Cover – Tales of the Unexpected!

If you are old enough, you may remember a Television series that aired between 1979 and 1988. One of the unique qualities at the time was its quirkiness. Each story had an unusual story line, sometimes dark and always with a twist at the end. Another of its inherent features was the perceived mundane nature of the events leading up to the main gist of the story accompanied usually by an implied moral. It was this series that brought to mind a strange event that happened to my brother many years ago when he had his very first mobile phone. In his case, the moral was that he should have taken out mobile phone insurance cover despite how careful he considered himself to be.

Here is a quick anecdote to underline the point of this story. Many years ago when I smoked, I remember driving along. I had the window open for most of the journey and it was just starting to get dark with the inevitable drop in temperature.

I had therefore closed the window. In a moment of forgetfulness, when I had finished the cigarette, I just flicked it, expecting it to spin out of the window. Unfortunately the window was CLOSED! The lighted cigarette fell right between my legs where I was sat and I had a terrifying 2 minutes trying to drive and pick up the cigarette and throw it out of the opened window! Phew!! I was lucky.

Anyway back to my brother. He was busy on his phone, gesticulating like people often do when talking on mobile phones as if the person they are talking to is there!

At the end of this particularly lively discussion with his wife, he swirled his hand as if waving her away. Unfortunately, he also let go of the handset! Off it sailed across the motorway only to be crushed under the gigantic wheels of a 40 ton truck. The end!

After the initial shock he decided to check his mobile phone insurance cover when he got home to make sure that this event, however bizarre, was covered. It was. Relief, however, was short-lived when he found that his wife had thought that he had simply cut her off whilst arguing with her on the phone and he spent the next few days having `deaf and dumb` dinners as the saying goes!

So there you have it, an unusual story with a twist at the end a moral for all mobile phone owners.
